“Pursue your dreams relentlessly. Believe in yourself. Believe in others. Love unconditionally. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the process. You are loved and more valuable than you will ever know.”
1. Where do you live?
Dallas born and raised!
2. Tell us a little bit about what you do for work and how you feel like it is promoting love in the world.
I wear a lot of hats…primarily I claim to be a musician/writer as that’s what I would do if I could only pick one thing. But since I don’t have to pick just one thing, I also do photography and video production. I feel like I promote love through my work in a few ways. Through my music: I often write about love…big surprise right? Through my work: While I love when I’m able to promote love through my photo/video work, the promotion of love really isn’t so much in the work itself but the way I treat those I work with/for.
3. What’s one thing that someone did for you over the years that really sticks out to you?
Believing in me, especially when I didn’t believe in myself. It’s really easy to be insecure, especially as an artist, and to be overly critical of your work. So having people believe in me has helped me to who I really am versus who I see myself as through my own eyes.
4. Why do you think it is import to be your authentic self? Can you share with us how being your true self has helped you succeed in life?
I think it’s important to be yourself because no one else can be you. You were created to be yourself. Only you can be you. There’s this widespread lie that it’s weird or abnormal to be yourself and that you should try to mimic others. But let’s think about this…if only you can be yourself, that means that everyone else can only be themselves, so doesn’t it seem kind of ludicrous to try to be someone else? And if everyone is being themselves, isn’t it actually weird or abnormal to not be yourself? Being myself helps me personally because I don’t feel the weight of trying to be something I’m not or trying to impress people. People aren’t impressed by your ability to mimic. People are impressed by your ability to be confident in being yourself and not worrying about the approval of man. Professionally I’ve been given interesting and unique opportunities, I believe, because I’m an interesting and unique person. People see who I am and something inside of them says “this is the guy for the job.” The more I am myself and the more I pursue the things I’m passionate about (which doesn’t come without lots of hard work and hustle) the more I find myself seeing my childhood dreams and fantasies become a reality. I can’t explain how amazing of a feeling it is. You can have it too.
5. What is one piece of advice you would give to someone if you knew that today was going to be your last day to live?
Pursue your dreams relentlessly. Believe in yourself. Believe in others. Love unconditionally. Love your friends. Love your enemies. Forgive 100% of people’s faults 100% of the time. And by 100% I mean 100%. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the process. There’s always pain in growth (they are called “growing pains” for a reason). You are loved and more valuable than you will ever know.
